    Also known as aubergine or brinjal depending on geographical location, eggplant is a member of the nightshade botanical family which also includes tomatoes and potatoes.
    Contrary to popular belief, nightshade vegetables are not uniquely inflammatory nor do they worsen inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

                               

    Although not particularly rich in many vitamins or minerals (aside from potassium), eggplants do contain a wide array of antioxidant compounds including anthocyanins which are responsible for its purple colour. Anthocyanins are part of a broader antioxidant family known as flavonoids, which may have unique mental health benefits due to their anti-inflammatory effects on brain cells. Often seeing a local family physician or a physiotherapist in conjunction with a registered dietitian and athletic therapist is a great option to take control of this condition. Smart Food Now and exercise is also optominal for overall health.
